Good evening sir. This is Personality Friday With Mimi. Can we meet you?

I am Lawal Tomiwa Adebayo, known as portrait.

How did you come about the nickname?

I named myself that.
When I looked back to my past and present, I realized I’m like a painted image in white paper, hung on a wall of war.
One day, I believe the world would see it and speak something beautiful about it.

So, what do you do?

I’m an ND graduate in Geology.
I sometimes write and I’m a spoken word poet.
I don’t have a job but hunting to get one soon.

What would you say about the state of unemployment in Nigeria?

Well, it’s not easy getting a job out there, most especially in this time that COVID-19 has become a temporary king.
Sometimes, I don’t believe in jobs but one needs it to get to the peak or better.
Nigeria economy is very poor.
Everybody should fight for himself or herself.

I don’t think our leaders are ready to make something beautiful happen out there.
Therefore, get a skill and if you’re an entrepreneur, do it with all your might.
I pray we all achieve our dreams.


What’s Geology all about?

Geology is the study of health, it encompasses from core to the mantle.
In a nutshell, geology is the study of the earth, for a lay man.
It’s a very wide discipline.


So, when did you start writing?

Roughly, two to three years ago.

How has it been?

Beautiful, always!
My best friend.

That’s cool!

What does it take to be a spoken word poet?

Time especially, and learning.

Nothing much more special.
Ability to know what one can do and good at.

Who or what can you say your motivation is?

I motivate myself.
I discovered that for you to be motivated, you have to motivate yourself, likewise happiness.

And I have a mentor, TIWISTAR and LKG.
They are my small god in this industry. They motivate me a lot!

So, who is TIWISTAR and LKG?

We call LKG (Lawal Kafayat Gold) boss, mother of all. She’s the author of “Stories From The Womb”.
They are both well known spoken word artiste.


What do you have to say to other youths out there?

Be you!
You can’t be someone else.
Life isn’t easy but be wise.
Be exposed, seek knowledge, read books, find a mentor and know what works for you.
