Personality Friday With Mimi

“..dad introduced me to Boxing alongside my brother.” Ekpelimode Sophia

Good evening ma. This is Personality Friday With Mimi. Can we meet you?

Yes, sure.

Your name and any other thing we need to know?

Oh, yeah!
My Name is Ekpelimode Sophia. I’m an Athlete. A boxer precisely, representing Delta State boxing team.
A comic actor, Singer, Voice Over Artist and a Peace loving woman.
I make hair and do lots of other stuff too.

How did you become a boxer?

My Dad introduced me to Boxing alongside my brother.

That’s cool!

There’s this belief about female boxers being feared by guys. How true?

Very true.
Like, dating a girl that will come and beat me?
Some do say it playfully while others believe that is how it is.

Uhmmm..
Someone once said it’s a major self defense against rape.

Hmm.
It can be used for self defense anywhere, not just for rape cases. And again, it is for the money.

Okay.
So, how did you start singing?

Well, I didn’t know I could sing.
Story is, my mum gave birth to a baby girl, my sister. I was very happy and decided to sing to the Lord.
I was very little then.

Yeah! Everyone was surprised like ‘Wow so you can sing?’
That’s how it all started.

Amazing!

As a peace loving woman, what would you advise one whose certificate got burnt by a best friend do?

Hmmmm. Well, It depends how it got burnt, mistakenly or intentionally.
Either ways, I’ll advise we put heads together if those certificates can be retrieved from the appropriate offices.

Yeah. The person that committed the crime, if it is intentional. I’ll see that justice is served.

We love peace.
We love justice as well.

Alright
How’s life as a boxer?

Fun I must say.
Going to competitions, meeting new people, new places and getting your cash.

But after taking punches. Yeah, we’re used to it though.

Then, critics on the other side.

‘You are a girl’ ‘You shouldn’t be boxing.’
‘I can’t marry a boxer!’
‘Stop boxing, you’ll turn to a man.’ Etcetera…

Like I said, we’re used to it.

In conclusion, it’s all fun.

How do you manage to do all that you do? What motivates you?

Passion.

I’m passionate about what I do.

Passion Drives me. Yeah.

What do you have to say to other youths out there?

Go for what you want.

Work hard.

No short cut to success.

Start from that little and see it grow .

Whatever you have passion for, go for it.

Be legit in your dealings.
