“Clients and competition in the Photography world is a general problem.” Oloruntoba Oluwaferanmi
Good afternoon sir. This is Personality Friday With Mimi. Can we meet you?
My name is Oloruntoba Oluwaferanmi.
So, what do you do?
I’m a Professional Digital Photographer and a Graphics designer.
Also, I study Crop Science and horticulture in the Federal University, Oye Ekiti.
“Professional Digital Photographer”
For how long have you been doing this?
About four years now.
Four years? How has it been?
How’s life as a photographer like?
Its been fun and challenging but me being passionate about it keeps pushing me.
We’ve heard of people running away while learning something due to the work load from their boss.
Did you ever experience
One question my boss would always ask anyone before coming to learn from him is; Are you passionate about it? If it’s a Yes, then the passion would surely keep you going no matter how big the work load is.
Well, at some point I felt like quitting especially when it comes to cropping in Photoshop and deciding the perfect settings when taking pictures. The stress could be sometimes killing but passion kept me going.
What’s crop science and horticulture all about?
Crop science and Horticulture is a branch of Agriculture.
Crop science generally focuses on major commodity crops such as corn, soy beans, rice, wheat etc.
Horticulture is everything else such as fruit, vegetables, ornamentals etc.
So, what’s the importance of studying crop science and horticulture?
Research wise, we use creativity to seek sustainable solutions in crop, horticultural research to enhance health and quality of life for the world at large.
Also, being self employed is the greatest importance because with the look of things in the Nigeria of today, we might end up farming.
What would you say photography is to you?
Photography is a display of creativity through pictures.
Just like the popular saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, long lasting memories are kept with photography.
Let me just say photography is life.
What has been your highest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Clients and competition in the Photography world is a general problem. Clients would decline your services in favor of pictures from another photographer because the other photographer’s pictures are better and that’s where competition comes in.
Again, our equipments are money draining and overcoming them is a process too.
As a photographer, you’ll have to learn not only how to lose to the competition gracefully but also how to make yourself stand out from everyone else.
The life of a photographer isn’t an easy one. It takes determination and an incredibly thick skin to get past the myriad problems you’ll face. However, once you find your way past these problems, you’ll find that photography is a rewarding and exciting career.
What would you like to say to other youths out there?
To the youths;
Know your worth, believe in yourself and in what you do.
Do the right thing and most especially, know your God.
